Biography

Robert is a Managing Director at FTI’s Economics and Financial Consulting Practice and a key member of the Clean Energy practice. Robert is a leading renewable energy professional with over 20 years’ experience of investment banking and consulting. He has written extensive research and consulted on the Clean energy industry, energy policy, climate change economics, ethical/impact investing and sustainability.

Before joining FTI, Robert was a Partner and the Director of Research at MAKE Consulting – a leading specialist renewables advisory firm. At MAKE Robert was responsible for all aspects of market forecasting, economic, strategic, supply chain and technology analyses of renewable energy systems. Prior to that, Robert spent 20 years as an investment banker, with the last 10 years covering the clean energy sector, as the Global Head of HSBC’s top-ranked Clean Energy Research team, covering the wind, solar, battery storage, electric vehicle, energy efficiency, biofuels, synfuels and utility sectors.

Prior to HSBC Robert worked for JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and UBS. Robert is also ACCA-qualified (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). He also ran his own consulting practice. He has a strong financial and advisory background with experience in market forecasts and industry benchmarking, strategic market entry, business model innovation, due diligence, as well as capital raising, mergers & acquisitions and valuations.

His project experience includes advising on renewable energy technology and economics, corporate strategy formulation, supply and demand forecasts/evaluations, strategic market entry & exit, capital raising, balance sheet restructuring, mergers & acquisitions, due diligence reviews, and energy policy.

Robert has worked with many global clients and led projects throughout the energy value chain including emerging technology companies, supply chain, OEMs, environmental organisations, utilities, developers, energy companies, venture capital, private equity, institutional investors, hedge funds and government agencies.

Robert has a deep understanding of the key generation technologies, capital markets, market structures, business strategy, market forecasting and industry benchmarking, supply chains and policy regimes in key global energy markets.

Robert is well-known across the renewables industry in particular for his written research which has been cited. He is often sought for his views from leading media outlets on energy issues. Robert frequently speaks at, or chairs renewable energy conferences.
