Biography

Jan Haizmann is a qualified lawyer graduating in Germany, UK and Belgium. He was admitted to the German Bar in 1994.

Dr. Haizmann started his career as associate at a German law firm Graf von Westphalen, specializing on European competition law and regulation in the telecoms sector. In 1999, Dr. Haizmann moved to London working as regulatory affairs manager for Enron Europe and subsequently at TXU Europe focusing on industry regulation applicable to the power and gas sector – he was in charge of competition and antitrust matters for the European region. Both companies stopped their operations. At Texas Utilities (TXU – Geneva) Dr. Haizmann was in charge of managing the closure of the energy trading portfolio and negotiating compromise solutions in the context of a business closure.  Mr. Haizmann gained commercial experience as gas origination manager (trader) at the front desk of Glencore Energy in London. 

Since 2005, Mr. Haizmann has been an independent consultant to the energy trading industry, based in Brussels, advising clients on legal and regulatory aspects of energy trading. Mr. Haizmann has been appointed expert in several arbitration proceedings helping dispute resolution in complex gas and power transactions. He has been appointed pre-arbitrage mediator in trading conflicts. He has been managing gas business set ups for existing and new energy trading locations as external adviser. Mr. Haizmann has advised on corporate strategy and on ways to improve legal and regulatory risk management for the wholesale trading business.  Dr Haizmann has been managing director of Correggio Consulting which he founded as boutique consulting in 2005 (www.correggio-consulting.eu). Correggio operates through 4 retained staff and a network of experienced experts across Europe.

In parallel to his consulting activities, Mr. Haizmann is holding different executive functions within the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET).

He is member of the EFET Board of Directors since 2009, serves as Chairman of the EFET Legal Committee since 2006 and has been appointed Director of the EFET EU Office in 2008.

Furthermore Mr. Haizmann is member of the exchange council of the European Energy Exchange (EEX), and engages in educational (training) activities pertaining to EFET contractual training at various academies. Haizmann is a frequent speaker at industry conventions.

Mr Haizmann attended and graduated with honours at the universities in Freiburg (1st State Exam at Law, 2nd State Exam at Law), London (Master of Laws – Commercial and Corporate law, LL.M.) and Brussels (PhD). He was admitted to the German Bar in 1994. He is fluent in German, English, French at Dutch.
