Biography

Vince Van Son is Director of Energy and Infrastructure at Facebook where he leads efforts to provide grid infrastructure, ensure security of supply, deliver competitive renewable energy solutions, and support new data center development in Europe. In May 2018 Vince and his team executed a power purchase agreement (PPA) that underpins the development and long-term operation of 294 MW of new wind energy in Europe. Facebook’s European data center portfolio includes facilities in Denmark, Sweden, and Ireland.

Vince joined Facebook in 2012 after 23 years with the global and vertically integrated aluminum producer Alcoa. At Alcoa Vince negotiated bespoke agreements for the purchase and sale of energy, led efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and shaped energy and environmental strategy. Between 2000 and 2007 Vince actively supported one of the first collaborative efforts to stimulate corporate renewable energy procurement – the World Resources Institute Green Power Market Development Group.

Vince has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Virginia Tech and an MBA from the University of Tennessee. Vince is located in Tennessee when not in Europe or California.
